Wheatie Bag Do’s and Don’ts

Wheat bags can bring relief and comfort to you when you use them properly. As with any product involving heat, there is a danger of fire and a risk of injury to you if you do not use it properly. After prolonged use over a period of time, the inner bag may need to be replaced. A bag should last for approximately a year.

DO
  • Heat in a microwave oven, lay flat on turntable and heat for 2 minutes on high (850 - 1000 watt ovens). If not hot enough, heat for a further minute.
  • Remove the polyester photo cover when microwaving.
  • To prevent the wheat drying out, a heatproof container of water (250ml) should be placed in the microwave with the bag.
  • Use only as a heat pack for direct application to the body.
  • Essential oils such as lavender, eucalyptus or peppermint can be sprinkled on the pillow after heating to enhance the benefit.
  • Leave to cool in a safe area and on a non-combustible surface, like a kitchen sink.
  • Bag can be used as a cold compress once chilled in the freezer.
  • Remove polyester photo cover every so often and wash in standard cycle.

    DO NOT
  • Do not use wheat bags as bed warmers.
  • Do not attempt to heat in an electric or gas conventional oven.
  • Do not over-heat (recommended maximum is three minutes).
  • Do not reheat the bag until it has completely cooled - which may be two hours after initial heating.
  • Do not leave the microwave unattended when heating a bag.
  • Do not store the wheat bag until it is cold.
  • Do not re-use a pillow that has an overcooked or burnt odour or if you observe any other problems – contact us.
